Once upon a time, when I was an angsty teenager, I had a blog. This was back when geocities was key and AOL hosted user websites. It was a pretty well-designed blog, with dark colors and stars. It was also primarily a narcissistic endeavor, as all I did was whine and wax poetic, indulging in my need to bemoan my high school existence. In other words, it was pretty typical. The thing is, the only people who read it were my equally angsty online friends. This blog is so much better. Of course, it's still slightly narcissistic (isn't all blogging?), and I like to complain now and again, but it is certainly a more cheerful space. Plus, it's at least semi-useful and people who don't know me actual read it!
This is why I'm excited to have received a few awards recently. A little validation in a sea of massive student debt ($144k, anyone?) and unemployment goes a long way. I would like to thank Dan over at IslandEAT and Tanantha from I Just Love My Apron for bestowing upon me the Sunshine Award. Also, I'd like to thank Katty over at Katty's Kitchen for doling out the Happy 101 Award. I'm glad I can brighten up someone's day.
So, this is how it works. I'm supposed to pass the Sunshine Award onto 12 people, and the Happy 101 Award onto 10 people. That's 22 people. Because I don't religiously read 22 blogs, I'm going to award the following people both. I'm a rebel, I know. Awardees, please pass on the awards to bloggers that brighten up your days. Everyone else, visit the blogs below if you already haven't. You're in for a treat.
Lauren's Little Kitchen: A newer blogger, she's got big food dreams and an off-the-wall sense of humor. I also think she's obsessed with her grill.
The Cilantropist: Always encouraging, she makes beautiful food. Plus, somehow her experiments always work out for the best. Maybe it's that whole scientist thing...
Le's Little Kitchen: A comrade in the ranks of unemployed, she makes me want to cook Filipino food--or at least steal some from my friends' mothers.
Lawyer Loves Lunch: All lawyers need a little love now and again. Especially lawyers who love barbeque.
Katty's Kitchen: I had planned to give her the Sunshine Award before she gave me an award. She's got a nice eclectic kitchen going on--Italian, desserts, Mexican-inspired, salads I'd never think of.
Kitchen Confidante: I pretty much want to eat all of her food. Especially her recent Strawberry Maple Upside Down Cakes with Maple Whipped Cream. Gaaaah.
French Press Memos: Who thinks of goat cheese and tarragon ice cream? Andra does. How, I don't know. All I know is that she manages to do it while being all lawerly. I aspire to such feats.
Keep Learning Keep Smiling: Mary cuts such a beautiful pineapple. That's a weird thing to say, but she's got mad skillz.
The Herbed Kitchen: Who knew gluten-free food could be so good? And so good for you? I've already saved a bunch of her recipes for future dinners.
Around the Plate: Kati is about to take her exam to be a Registered Dietitian. She gives good tips and makes me feel better that I'm addicted to Diet Coke.
Daisy, JD: While she has a food blog on the side, Daisy had this blog first. This was one of the first blogs I started reading when I was a law student--it's about jobs, being a lawyer, liking manners and pretty things, the dog, and just about everything else. I always leave amused.
Oh yeah, the Happy 101 Award requires that I list 10 things that make me happy. My list in no particular order:
1. My dog sporting a faux hawk in the bath. (She got water on my lens even when being held still by my dad)
2. Awesome shoes and purses.
5. Complete and utter silence.
6. This hideous olive green and yellow afghan blanket that's at least 30 years old. It follows me everywhere and is so soft.
7. Foreign travel.
9. Diet Coke
10. My brother sequestered in his own room while I am around.
